​Help Recovery Centers is an outpatient substance abuse treatment service located in Murfreesboro and Christiana Tennessee. However, we also provide services throughout the state utilizing our video and telehealth programs. Help Recovery Center's mission is to assist clients with developing and maintaining a purposeful, enjoyable recovery from substance use disorder.

​The addiction treatment field has rapidly evolved over the last 20 years. We continue to learn more about the effects alcohol and drug misuse has on the brain’s chemistry. Improved counseling strategies compliment medications to help manage withdrawal and cravings. Help Recovery Centers embrace the latest scientific advancements from cognitive retraining techniques to FDA approved medications for the treatment of substance abuse (MAT) and mood disorders. At Help Recovery Centers, clinical director Tom Diffenderfer LADAC II, QCS, and addiction therapist Tiffany Porter BS., LADAC II use a state of the art, integrated, and individualized, approach.

​Tom Diffenderfer is a level II Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC II), Qualified Clinical Supervisor (QCS), & Certified Anxiety-informed Professional (CAIP). He is the co-founder and clinical director of Help Recovery Centers. Prior to starting his private counseling practice in 2012, he had spent 18 years as a counselor and program coordinator at one of Nashville’s oldest and most established alcohol and drug abuse treatment centers. Tom is a pioneer in the field of developing and utilizing video counseling strategies and online recovery technology. Over the last 30 years, he has helped thousands of individuals and families recover from Opiate and other substance use disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Tom is the author of “The Clinicians Guide for Medication Assisted Treatment”.

​Tiffany Porter has a degree in healthcare management and is a level II Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC II). She is the co-founder and lead therapist at Help Recovery Centers. For the last 10 years, she has been providing assessment and counseling for substance abuse clients, facilitating domestic violence prevention and anger management groups, directing the day-to-day activities of a residential education center for alcohol and drug related offenders and working as a counselor and medical liaison with Recovery Consulting Service’s Suboxone program. Tiffany Porter brings a wealth of experience to her role as the primary therapist for Help Recovery’s addiction treatment programs.

​For our opiate addicted patients that choose to use a medication assisted treatment (MAT) approach, we have close working relationships with several local physicians that prescribe suboxone. The medication helps manage withdrawal and cravings. We can provide the referral along with follow-up counseling verifications to the doctor's office or you can use a doctor of your choice. Alcohol and drug assessments made easy
Our licensed addiction counselors have technology that allows you to participate in an alcohol and drug evaluation from the comfort of your home on computer, tablet, or smartphone. We will join you on-line with a video connection, walk you through the assessment, and email you the results with a recommendation in real time.

 How it works

Treatment starts with a substance use disorder evaluation. This is to determine the severity of the problem and what level of care would be most appropriate. If outpatient treatment is the right fit, you will be admitted into the program, meet with your counselor, and receive a Help Recovery workbook and password to your online mobile app. By using the Help Recovery interactive workbook and submission forms, you will have the opportunity to check in with your counselors every morning and evening, 7 days a week. 
​This level of enhanced communication and original recovery technology helps set Help Recovery apart from the one size fits all approach often found in other addiction treatment programs.

Help Recovery Center's Intensive Outpatient (IOP) Video Therapy Program

​The Help IOP substance abuse treatment program meets 3 times a week for a total of 5 weeks. Extra sessions can be added as needed. The sessions are conducted online using zoom video counseling, or at our Christiana, TN. facility. The goal is to provide you with an array of different recovery resources. Upon completion of the Help IOP program, you should have an understanding of the brain disease of substance use disorder and how to place the disease in remission. You will also be introduced to a large collection of recovery tools and support that can be utilized to keep the disease in remission. Our desire is to assist you in developing your individual path to an enjoyable and purposeful recovery lifestyle.

MAT monthly check-in - $40 per session

For the last 25 years I have been helping clients increase the awareness of peace in their lives by decreasing the struggle that creates anxiety and stress. The following services are provided by Help Recovery's licensed addiction therapists  


​1. Alcohol and drug evaluation/assessment
Many people don’t understand the definition of substance use disorder. As a result, they are not sure if they have a substance abuse problem or not. Our licensed addictions counselors are trained to evaluate and assess if an individual has a substance use disorder and whether their problem is mild, moderate, or severe. Evaluations are conducted using zoom video and our interactive submission forms. The whole process usually takes about an hour and can be completed from the comfort of your home. We will discuss the results and provide education, along with emailing a written copy. People seek alcohol & drug evaluations for many reasons including court orders, requests from attorneys or significant others, requests from employers, or to determine what type of help they may need. 

2. Alcohol and drug education classes
Our alcohol and drug education classes can be conducted in either a group or individual setting. Upon completion of the classes, participants should have an understanding of the brain disease of substance use disorder and how to place the disease in remission. The sessions include information on the definition of addiction and the diagnostic criteria that we use to determine the level of severity. They will also be introduced to a large collection of recovery tools and supports that can be utilized to keep the disease in remission.

3. Intensive outpatient treatment (IOP)
IOP with Help Recovery, focuses on helping the patient maintain sobriety during the first few weeks and months of early recovery. The usual topics could include dealing with cravings, establishing boundaries, building support, education on the disease of addiction, relapse prevention or remission maintenance, and managing feelings. Sessions occur 3 times per week for a minimum of 5 weeks. More weeks can be added as needed. The main goal is to learn to avoid substance abuse on a daily basis. This state Licensed program is also available to DUI offenders with multiple offenses and can be used as a substitute for certain jail sentences.

4. Traditional outpatient (OP)
​Once the substance use disorder is in remission, the emphasis shifts to maintaining a quality recovery lifestyle. The goal is to decrease the risk of relapse by improving overall emotional wellness. Traditional outpatient will often address issues such as relationships, finances, employment, as well as living with purpose, passion, and peace. Sessions occur one time per week or bi-monthly for up to a year or longer.

5. Domestic Violence Course
The Domestic Violence program consists of a 1-hour class per week for 26 weeks. The Domestic Violence classes are the centerpiece of an educational program that may be required in the state of Tennessee by the court, a legal order, a legal representative, a parole or probation officer, an employer, or other entity. Our Domestic Violence Course has been written by a Certified Domestic Violence Specialist (CDVS-1) to meet national standards and is recognized by courts and organizations that allow distance learning. The program provides meaningful content intended to meet court, legal, or employer requirements. We also recommend the Domestic Violence Class for personal growth. The participant will learn the tools necessary to help manage relationship problems more successfully.

6. Anger Management Course
The Anger Management course consists of a 1 hour class weekly for either 8 or 12 weeks. Anger management is the process of learning to recognize signs that you're becoming angry, and take action to calm down and deal with the situation in a productive way. Anger management doesn't try to keep you from feeling anger or encourage you to hold it in. Anger is a normal, healthy emotion when you know how to express it appropriately — anger management is about learning how to do this. Anger management helps you see frustrations early and resolve them in a way that allows you to express your needs — and keeps you calm and in control.

A quick lesson in addiction treatment levels of care


​There are 4 basic levels of care. One of the first decisions that will need to be made when seeking addiction treatment is which level of care is right for you.
​
​1. Outpatient (OP): consists of 1 or 2 counseling session per week, as needed.
2. Intensive outpatient (IOP): consists of 3 therapy and education sessions per week.
3. Residential services: provide structured day treatment and the patient lives at the facility for several weeks or longer.
4. Medically managed intensive inpatient: for co-existing medical problems requiring a hospital setting with medical staff.

If you are appropriate for OP or IOP, we can schedule you an appointment to begin online video counseling.
If Opiate Use disorder is the problem, we can help you determine if a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) plan is recommended. These FDA approved medications will manage the cravings and withdrawal, while you participate in our video counseling program.
